Oh Panama!
Panama3

The label Sound Way invites us on a walk on sunny beaches with Panamanian vinyls. We discovered the first volume in the serious with curiosity and interest. This third opus, just released, provides the opportunity to pursue the quest for groove.

We congratulate  Roberto Ernesto Gyemant and Miles Cleret, at the origin of this series, reunited on this opus by the musician Quantic. Latin and Soul which leave a taste of old rum in your mouth. And this third glass, far from making you drunk and stupid, confirms the power of the aromas and the richness of the Panamanian soil.

Panama Groove
Panama

In the shadow of the great lands of sound which are Brazil and Cuba, or even Argentina and Mexico, we could be forgiven for thinking that the rest of the South American continent resembles a musical desert - it is so widespread and little known.

However, groove is alive and fertile there. Take Panama, for example: a little country, true. However it acts as a junction between the Northern and Southern continents, giving it a geography of musical confluences, the meeting of the Latin sounds and Soul music. This topography of Groove can be retraced with this compilation which spans the years between 1965 and 1975.

An isthmus from North to South, a canal from East to West, what else does it need to be the cardinal point, the meeting place of influence? In the early steps of democracy we can already hear the rumblings of the magma of youth, coming from underground.

Music Tennis Table
Computer Jokeys
Produced by German collective "Computer Jockeys", this is a track based on the simple but great idea to sample some tennis table. With its huge bass and implacable groove, Ping Pong is a dancefloor killer which might remind you of these holidays at the camping, when you were 12.

Now kids have a Wii...

Oscar Sulley - "Bukom Mashie"
Ghana Soundz
Sampler friendly hypnotic bass, roaring horns with a jazzy flavour: its all in this classic afro track from Oscar Sulley: "Bukom Mashie". So good that the track has been put on numerous specialized compilations ("Giles Peterson in Africa", "Beats and Pieces 3").

If you are a fan of 70's afro-jazz-funk, I can only recommend you buy the Ghana Soundz compilation (2 volumes of equal high quality), which, contrary to Eurotunnel shares, will bring you a truly excellent return on investment.
